Coast, inland, mountains and city
Portugal is so much more than Algarve and Lisbon. It is quite a small country so a route may contain a few or all districts on the mainland depending on how much time you can spend.
An entry may be the Silver coasts beautiful beaches; the almost 2000 meters high mountains in Serra Estrela; the level country of Alentejo with cork trees and olives as far as your sight goes; the beautiful Douro Valley where the wine rolls up the hills; and of course Lisbon - the fascinating capital situated on seven heights.
The history of civilization in Portugal is immense. Small villages from the Middle Age, Roman ruins, forts, castles, palaces and beautiful churches.
Madeira
A trip to Madeira can easily be combined with a stay at the mainland, but the island has so many adventures on its own that it deserves a longer stay than just a short trip.
There is a beautiful nature where different kinds of flowers/plants bloom at different times of the year. If you like walking tours there are many possibilities along the water channels (levadas) criss-crossing the island.
A few days in the charming capital Funchal must be a part of the stay and maybe a trip to the golden sands, the fantastic beach, at the island of Porto Santo.
